Joseph Awad worked with us on a basement remodel that would have cost $90-$150k., and they provided us with an elaborate proposal. By October 2022, we signed the principal agreement which included $500 for Awad's architect's review of the work, giving us peace of mind for this major investment. We expressed our willingness to commit and preferred to begin the process (and make a large upfront payment) during the early months of 2023. Joseph provided the usual disclaimer regarding costs as well as noting that design fees may increase starting January 1. At that time, inflation had not yet become an issue for us. When we reached out again in mid-January to inquire about pricing increases, Joseph and his team confirmed that $12,000 for design fees had gone up from the original estimate of $7,000 - this time without warning us beforehand. He further confirmed that it was simply due to inflation. When I questioned him why there hadn't been any earlier notice before December's increase, Joseph replied that it had become necessary due to demand increases. He claimed he had 150 customers who are in my position and couldn't notify all. How is that possible? 150 customers paid something in October for the start and were ready for a contract, yet they wanted to wait three more months? In my opinion, Joseph Awad's behavior is unreasonable and unprofessional. While it could be possible this firm does good work or has other professionals, I wouldn't recommend them when there are so many professional, good, reasonable firms available that could do the same job just as well.
